After a thrilling, come-from-behind win against West Ham, Brighton stays at home to face Newcastle United.
Brighton used two late goals to capture a 3-2 win over West Ham on Matchday 33. Despite the win, Brighton remains behind Fulham for a potential Europa Conference League spot.
Newcastle, thanks to a man advantage, delivered a 3-0 home win over Ipswich Town. Newcastle sits third in the EPL but are only two points clear of sixth.

Newcastle vs Brighton: Prediction
Based on Brighton’s injury-riddled defense and Newcastle’s poor defensive record away from home, my Brighton vs Newcastle prediction is Over 2.5 Goals (-175).
It’s a lot of juice to lay on a total, but I’m confident laying it in a match with a weakened Brighton defense.
Four defenders remain out via injury for Sunday’s match, including three central defenders.
Over the weekend against West Ham – one of the league’s worst attacks outside the relegation zone – Brighton surrendered two goals off 1.3 xG and 1.75 post-shot xG, per fotmob.com.
Even against Leicester City – the league’s worst attack by expected goals – Brighton surrendered 1.53 post-shot xG.
Over their last six matches, Brighton haven’t kept an opponent under two goals in any match.
Newcastle, despite failing to score at home against Brighton earlier this season, created two expected goals, albeit against 0.9 post-shot xG.
At the same time, I question Newcastle’s defensive viability away from home.
In their last three trips to top-half opponents, Newcastle allowed 10 goals off 5.8 xG and 6.1 post-shot xG.
Irrespective of opponent, Newcastle kept five clean sheets away from home. All five of those successes came against teams sixth or worse in post-shot xG for the season.
Earlier this season, Brighton created 1.7 post-shot xG at Newcastle.
This match also fits a historically profitable betting system.
Since last season, matches featuring a total of 2.5 goals are 69-28 to the over, assuming two factors:
- The road team’s average number of goals scored falls between 1.4 and 1.9
- The road team’s average number of goals allowed falls between 1.2 and 1.8
As a result, I like a high-scoring fixture on Sunday at the Amex Stadium.
