Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction & Odds

See the latest EPL odds, picks, and predictions for Crystal Palace vs Chelsea ahead of their matchup on August 17 at Stamford Bridge.
  • Chelsea is predicted to be a -0.5-goal home favorite against Crystal Palace.
  • Chelsea has scored in each of its last 29 EPL matches as a home favorite.
  • My Chelsea vs Crystal Palace prediction is for both teams to score (-135).

After a Club World Cup victory in the summer, Chelsea begins its EPL campaign at home to Palace.ย

The Blues finished fourth in the EPL last year, but struggled against Palace. Across two head-to-head meetings, Chelsea took two points from six.ย

Before those two draws, Chelsea racked up 13 straight league wins over Palace. Last year, Palace finished 12th in the league while ranking as the unluckiest team in the league.ย

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea: Prediction

Based on Chelseaโ€™s success as a home favorite and the potential for Palace to experience positive regression, my Chelsea vs Crystal Palace prediction is Both Teams to Score (-135).ย

The price strikes me as a touch low given this market hit in both fixtures last season.ย

Essentially, the onus falls on Palace within this prop bet.ย

Chelsea has scored at least once in 29 straight matches as a home favorite. Theyโ€™ve also scored at least once in 22 straight league matches against Crystal Palace.ย

But donโ€™t count out the Palace attack in this match. While I prefer the market if Eberechi Eze stays with Palace, history suggests positive regression could arrive.ย

Last year, Oliver Glasnerโ€™s side ran incredibly unlucky offensively.ย

Palace scored 49 non-own goals against 57.5 post-shot expected goals, per fbref.com.ย

That +8.5 gap ranks as the largest underperformance in the EPL last year.ย

Against Chelsea, Palace managed to clear one post-shot xG in both head-to-head meetings. Over the last four head-to-head meetings, Palace managed four tallies off 3.88 post-shot xG.ย

In general, both teams proved BTTS machines last season. Palace cashed this market in 58% of all fixtures, the same figure as Chelsea.ย

With Chelsea as a home favorite: 11-6 in favor of BTTS last season. Irrespective of venue: 18-13 in favor of BTTS.ย

At home, half of those six failures came against teams 17th or worse in post-shot xGF last season.ย

Irrespective of those outcomes, an implied probability difference exists within this market.ย

Last year, Chelseaโ€™s matches as a home favorite hit BTTS at a 64.7% rate. Based on these odds, the implied probability is 57.4%.ย
