The Most Expensive Transfer of 2022-23: Antony to Man Utd
Brazilian winger Antony was an early transfer target for Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag. He played under ten Hag at Ajax, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists in two seasons under the Dutchman in the Eredivisie.
Ajax drove an incredibly tough transfer process with United, who landed the 22-year-old on the last day of the transfer window for $104.5 million. This is the second highest fee that the Red Devils have paid for a player (after Paul Pogba).
However, the Brazilian made an immediate impact and scored on his debut against Arsenal. Despite the pressure of his price tag, Antony looks like a good buy for the Red Devils, and his tenacity and tricky footwork will improve the soccer odds of the club making it into the Top Four this season.
