Tottenham Make Statement of Intent With Transfer Business

Tottenham has already been quick to conduct some early transfer business, and from a Premier League betting perspective, it will be fascinating to see how the North London outfit fares next season.

Although the summer transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1, Tottenham is already flexing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan and Fraser Forster’s weight in the market, and they have clinched deals for two players -who penned a two-year contract after signing from Southampton.

Having achieved a top-four finish last term, Tottenham is in no mood to rest on its laurels, and they want to bolster the squad to take them to the next level.

Fans will be demanding more transfers during the window, and there are a few areas where they need to improve if they are going to bridge the gap between Manchester City and Liverpool.

Expectation levels are always high for Tottenham, especially when they haven’t won a piece of silverware in over a decade, and here’s what I think about their postseason plans.

Antonio Conte Blueprint

If it wasn’t clear, Antonio Conte is trying to mold the Tottenham side in his vision.

Having only taken over last November, Conte had to try and inject some belief into a squad that was severely lacking when Nuno Santo was in charge.

Conte met his remit of a top-four finish, even though his side suffered defeat on 11 occasions in the EPL last term.

However, it feels like a fresh slate for Conte and recent reports have suggested that he wants as many as six new players to walk through the door this summer.

Of course, the Perisic deal is significant as Conte previously worked with the Croatian midfielder at Inter Milan, where they won the Serie A title.

And I imagine Conte won’t let up in his demands of what he wants from his newest additions and his existing squad members.

Strengthen the Defense

Last season, Tottenham conceded 40 times in the Premier League, although they managed to keep 16 clean sheets.

The addition of Forster will add some much-needed experience, and he will keep Hugo Lloris, the current No.1, on his toes in the event the Frenchman’s form drops off.

However, a new central defender is a priority, especially when you consider there have been concerns voiced over Davinson Sanchez. 

Cristian Romero was an inspired signing, and Tottenham fans love how he throws himself into tackles on the pitch, normally in a controlled manner.

There has been speculation about Italy international Alessandro Bastoni, who worked under Conte at Inter, to move to Tottenham, and he would give the back four more stability. 

There will be a flurry of soccer odds knocking about for Bastoni to come to the Premier League.

Mounting a Title Challenge

Fans will already be turning their attention to next season, and plenty will be eager to see how the Premier League odds for the title are shaping up.

Tottenham is still waiting to lift its first EPL title, but they have a lot of work to overhaul Manchester City and Liverpool, who have shifted the goalposts.

I think a top-four finish is attainable for Tottenham. However, consistency will be the key for them. 

I think the EPL odds of +1600 for Tottenham to win the title are quite long, but it reflects where they are at. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how they evolve under Conte.
