Pro Football Underdog Lines: 3 Lopsided Bets That Might Be Worthwhile

Week 9 NFL

So, you’re saying there’s a chance? Every week in NFL betting, some games hit that not many people believed had a chance. In Week 8 alone, there were eight upsets and a few that were truly shocking. That’s the beauty of betting the pro football underdog lines – you always have a chance.

Week 9 doesn’t feature the same kind of monster spreads that we’ve seen on some games in the last couple of weeks, but there are still a few upsets to consider for your NFL bets. So here’s a look at three games worth thinking about if you’re looking for an underdog.

Jets (+375) at Colts

If you believe that lightning can strike twice betting on football, then you might want to take a flier on the New York Jets. In the shocker of the week, backup quarterback Mike White and the Jets prevailed as a massive underdog against the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday, scoring on their final five drives of the game.

You received a healthy payday if you were in the small minority that bet on the Jets last week.

The question is whether this was a fluky one-off or if Mike White can carry his strong play into Week 9. His numbers were extraordinary against the Bengals as he threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns.

This week the Jets will face a challenging but not impossible Colts defense that just gave up 34 points in a loss to the Tennessee Titans, a team that the Jets have already beat this year. As a result, the Jets may be an underdog worth backing for the rest of the NFL betting season.

Bears (+225) at Steelers

Somehow the Steelers keep winning. After a three-game losing streak, Pittsburgh responded with three straight wins to keep them in the hunt for the AFC North title. The Steelers are near the bottom of the league in both total yards (26th) and points scored (26th) but, through a solid defense, have managed to grind out some close victories.

The Bears head to the Steel City after suffering a 33-22 loss to the 49ers at home. It’s a game that Chicago was in up until halfway through the fourth quarter when the 49ers pulled away. However, there were some positives to take away from the loss for Chicago, as rookie QB Justin Fields showed flashes of brilliance, reminding us of why he was the 11th overall pick.

He ran for over 100 yards on the day, including a dazzling 22-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter. If Fields and the Bears can build on last week’s performance, this should be a close game and one to include in your underdog football betting.

Titans (+275) at Rams

The football betting odds would have been a lot closer on this one if the Titans didn’t lose the lynchpin of their offense in running back Derrick Henry. In a crushing blow to Tennessee, Henry suffered a foot injury that requires surgery, and he will likely miss the remainder of the season.

The Titans signed future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson off the street to handle some of Henry’s workload. However, the pro football betting markets don’t think Peterson will make much of a difference.

Tennessee has been one of the hottest teams in the league and has recently looked like the team to beat in the AFC after their fourth straight win on Sunday. They’re sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 28.4 points per game, but will now have to navigate uncharted territory without their lead dog.

It will be interesting to see how they respond to adversity, and this might be a game you want to take a shot on.

What Pro Football Underdog Lines Do You Like This Week?

The above bets are my favorite pro football underdog lines this week, but there are a few other upsets to consider. For example, the Houston Texans have some big odds (+250) against the Miami Dolphins. The Atlanta Falcons (+190) also might have a shot against the Jameis Winston-less division rival New Orleans Saints.
