The 2025-26 PWHL season is now underway, and a few games into the regular season, we’re already seeing some hints at who could be the best contenders for the league’s championship, the Walter Cup.

The PWHL, Professional Women’s Hockey League, is now in its third season as a league, and it looks like it could be the most successful iteration of a North American women’s hockey league we’ve had.

Evidence of the league’s success can be seen in the fact that it’s already expanding three years into its existence.

The league welcomed two new teams, the Vancouver Goldeneyes and the Seattle Torrent, this season, and they’re already setting attendance records in the league. On November 21, the Goldeneyes set the record for the largest attendance in a PWHL team’s primary home venue, and then a week later, the Torrent broke that record by 2,000 fans.

Vancouver and Seattle are both major contenders for the Walter Cup this season. Here’s a look at where the odds stand as of December 10.

Vancouver Goldeneyes (+400)

Over the offseason, the Goldeneyes made it very clear that they were going for it in the first year of their franchise.

With the first pick in the expansion draft, Vancouver drafted elite defenseman Ashton Bell, who has since become the Goldeneyes’ captain.

After that, they went hard in free agency, signing five players, four of whom represented Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

That included Sarah Nurse, who had six goals and eight assists in 21 games played the season prior in Toronto. Additionally, the Goldeneyes signed two star defenseman, Claire Thompson and Sophie Jaques, from the defending champion Minnesota Frost.

Through their first five games, Vancouver has a 2-0-3 record. In their most recent game on December 6, they had a 4-0 shutout victory over the New York Sirens.

Goldeneyes forward Abby Boreen is leading the way for Vancouver with three goals and four points overall through five games played. Boreen is currently second in the league in scoring behind Minnesota forward Kendall Coyne Schofield.
