Luck is not on the side of the New York Giants with this season’s schedule. Yet, online football betting is being kind with the spread. The Giants come off a short week from a Monday night loss in Kansas City.
Now, a rested Las Vegas Raiders squad will visit in Week 9 after their bye. But, first, let’s learn more about the odds for Raiders at Giants and who will cover the points spread.
Las Vegas Raiders
Derek Carr and the Raiders’ offense defeated the Eagles 33-22 without TE Darren Waller. Carr had plenty of other targets, and Foster Moreau filled in nicely with six catches.
Yet with Waller back for Week 9, the Raiders can count on better than 11.5 yards per catch. Combined with Bryan Edwards on the outside, the Raiders have a potent combination. Derek Carr will continue to spread the field in New Jersey this week.
A welcome story for the Las Vegas Raiders is on defense with the play of Yannick Ngakoue. For his massive effort in Week 7 against the Eagles, the rush end received defensive player honors. With team leader Maxx Crosby on the other end, Daniel Jones will need to be quick on the release.
Las Vegas is in the driver’s seat in the AFC West through all the trials of the early part of this season. And now, they come to New York rested and confident, hoping to keep the momentum in their favor.
New York Giants
It looked like this team had turned a corner with a home win against Carolina in Week 7. Daniel Jones had a solid game in a 25-3 victory. The Giants traveled to Kansas City on Monday night to meet a beleaguered Chiefs team.
The defense held last year’s AFC champs to 17 points in Arrowhead Stadium. The Giants had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter, but mishaps plagued the Giants once again.
Excuses aside, poor clock management and continuous pressure on the quarterback are not helping this offense get into a rhythm. The New York Giants need better leadership from the sidelines first.
Despite the issues, Jones threw for two touchdowns and had a 96.1 QB rating. He bounced back from a rough start after throwing an interception in the opening drive. Then, saved by the Giants defensive end zone interception, Jones began to make plays.
The injury bug has also plagued the offense. Kadarius Toney and Sterling Shepard left the game late, so John Ross will need another massive effort when the Raiders come to town.
Raiders at Giants (+3)
Las Vegas leads a very competitive AFC West, and the play of Derek Carr is a significant reason. The Raiders are 3rd in the NFL in passing yards and 16th in total yards. With the 9th best defense against the pass, the Raiders will be a lot to handle for the Giants.
The New York Giants have some good pieces if they can keep them healthy. But as a team, they can’t seem to get out of their own way. I believe that the Raiders will keep winning with an interim coach.
So for those reasons, I’m giving the three points and taking the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.
