Week 6 in the NFL is almost upon us, and there are some great matchups around the league this week. Today we’re going to focus on the Arizona Cardinals.
NFL betting enthusiasts should have fun with this one as either team could come out on top.
DeAndre Hopkins and The Cardinals take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 6 of the NFL season in what should be a great matchup. Both teams have great young quarterbacks that should provide some fireworks for people tuning in to the game.
The game’s outcome is going to depend a lot on both teams’ passing attacks. Baker Mayfield is going to have to link up with Odell Beckham Jr. as much as possible. As for Arizona, it’s all going to come down to Kyler Murray and Deandre Hopkins.
The Cardinals’ Offense and DeAndre Hopkins
The Arizona Cardinals are 5-0 and on top of the NFC West after a hard-fought victory against San Francisco in Week 5.
Kyler Murray and company have not left the fans wanting for offensive firepower. The Cardinals are the sixth-best offense in the league for yards per game with 413.2. In addition, the team is averaging 31.4 points per game.
This past week, the Cardinals only scored 17 points against San Francisco, but that speaks more to the 49ers’ defense than any weakness in the Cardinals’ air attack.
Kyler Murray is a dual-threat quarterback that can force the defense to play a linebacker in spy. His ability to run and pass frees up space and makes the defense tighten up, giving him more opportunities for deep passes.
He’s averaging 33 pass attempts per game, for 302.4 yards per game and a QBR of 113.
Out of 165 attempts, Murray has completed 124. Twenty-three of those completions have gone to DeAndre Hopkins.
DeAndre Leaves Defenses With a Tough Choice
Hopkins is currently only averaging 4.6 catches per game, but this has more to do with teams focusing on him and less with his talent as a playmaker. He also has four touchdowns this year, which is just under one per game.
One of the best things about the Cardinals’ offense after adding A.J. Green is that defenses have to make a terrible choice. If they double one, it leaves the other with single or zone coverage. If they bring the safeties over the top of both, Murray can pick apart the defense with quick routes in the middle of the field. Both Hopkins and Green can block effectively, allowing those short routes to turn into significant gains.
The Browns will have to repair their pass defense after the shootout they just had with Herbert and the Chargers. The Browns need to figure out a way to shut down DeAndre if they want to walk away with a win.
Given that the Browns have struggled this season against good quarterbacks (Herbert and Mahomes), I expect the Cardinals to pass the ball a lot. I think Hopkins will have a good game, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Browns focus on stopping him and taking their chances with Green. I think Hopkins will have between 50-75 yards receiving and a touchdown.
