The 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game is under a week away. It will be Georgia vs. Alabama for the second time in five years. The Bulldogs will try to atone for a 26-23 loss to the Crimson Tide the last time they met in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams will have to carry a heavy load, as the Tide will again be without receiver John Metchie. The college football odds currently have the Bulldogs as a three-point favorite for this Monday night matchup.

Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for the big game.

2022 CFP National Championship Game

  • Date: Monday, January 10
  • Time: 8:00 P.M. EST
  • Venue: Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Participants: Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs

Williams Shined in the SEC Championship Game

The last time these two teams met in the SEC Championship Game back on December 4, it was a memorable one for Williams. The Crimson Tide shocked the undefeated Bulldogs 41-24, thanks largely to a spectacular effort from Bryce Young and Jameson Williams.

Williams had seven grabs on the day for 184 yards and two touchdowns. The former Ohio State Buckeye averaged 26.3 yards per catch, including a 67-yard bomb and one carry for 12 yards.

In that game, Alabama put up 421 yards through the air, with 97 going to Williams’ standout teammate Metchie. Without Metchie on the field this time, Williams will need to produce another great game if the Tide wants to win this one.

Jameson Williams Receiving Statistics

After spending two years with the Buckeyes, Williams joined the Crimson Tide this year and immediately made his presence felt. Having tallied just 15 total receptions in two years with the Buckeyes, Williams has enjoyed a breakout season with 75 receptions, 1507 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

He’s averaging over 100 yards through the air this year and has a ridiculous 20% touchdown rate. Williams has had 123 yards or more in five of his last seven games and 158 yards or more in four of his previous six.

He’s coming off one of his worst games yardage-wise this season, where he mustered just 62 yards against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Cotton Bowl, a game where Alabama was held to 181 passing yards. He was also held without a touchdown in that game.

Will History Repeat Itself?

Jameson Williams put on a show against the Bulldogs in early December, and Alabama fans are counting on a repeat performance. While Georgia’s defense is well-documented, the Crimson Tide has already proven that they can be beaten.

Bama put up over 400 passing yards against them a month ago, so it will be interesting to see if they can have a similar result without star wideout Metchie.
