The 2021 NFL season has not been kind to rookie quarterbacks. This year’s draft class featured a lot of big names, including Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Zach Wilson. Up to this point, there have been some positives, but also a lot of inconsistent play and injuries.
How will the rookie quarterbacks fare in Week 10? In looking at the latest NFL odds there are several games to consider.

Mac Jones In a Marquee Showdown
The Cleveland Browns visit Foxboro in one of the more intriguing Week 10 matchups. The New England Patriots (-2) are slight home favorites.
The Patriots are on a three-game winning streak and are now firmly positioned within the AFC playoff picture. With a stellar run game and stout defense, New England looks like a very difficult team to bet against at the moment.
Mac Jones has also played a big part in New England’s success, improving his performance in recent weeks. Jones has thrown just one interception the past three games compared with six in the six games prior. He has been among the most impressive NFL rookies this season.
New England is figuring out how to incorporate their young quarterback into a dangerous run-first offense. The last three weeks spell bad news for the rest of the AFC.

Trevor Lawrence as a Double-Digit Underdog
The Jacksonville Jaguars (+10.5) head to Indianapolis fresh off the most stunning upset of the season against Buffalo in Week 9. If the Jags are going to pull off another shocker in Week 10, they will need more out of rookie Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence completed just 15 passes for 118 yards in the win.
It’s been a very uneven season for the #1 pick. Lawrence has struggled with turnovers, throwing nine interceptions and losing three fumbles through the first eight games.
In Week 10 Lawrence faces a suspect Colts defense ranked 20th against the pass this year. He will have an opportunity to make some big plays in this game.
Despite the mediocre numbers, it would be a mistake to write off Lawrence as a bust at such an early juncture. He is still the same quarterback that displayed enormous talent at Clemson. He will continue to have some bumps in the road but the upside is massive.
If Lawrence can extend plays with his legs and limit mistakes, the Jaguars might be able to hang around in this game. The large point spread makes this a game worth considering.
Other Rookie Quarterbacks to Watch:
With Justin Fields and Davis Mills off this week, other starting NFL rookie quarterbacks are somewhat limited.
Keep an eye on the 49ers (+4) vs LA Rams. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a leg injury in Week 9. It appears he will be good to go, but if he suffers a setback, rookie Trey Lance is waiting in the wings. This is worth monitoring as it could impact the betting line.
The Jets (+13) vs Buffalo is another game to watch. The Jets had hinted rookie Zach Wilson might be able to return for this game but later announced that Mike White would start this game. Do the Jets have a quarterback controversy brewing?
