- Portugal should win, and South Korea’s tournament will likely end.
South Korea faces Portugal in their last bid to advance to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.
Portugal has already qualified for the next round, and a draw will see them top the Group. South Korea has to win this game to advance and rely on results from the other game in Group H.
Portugal is bound to rest some of their players, so could this be the break South Korea needs to take all three points?

South Korea vs. Portugal Analysis
South Korea’s loss to Ghana has put the country in a very precarious position. They need to win against Portugal and hope that Ghana loses to Uruguay, but not by a big margin.
It’s a mammoth task against a team that has yet to drop points in the World Cup so far. Watching Son Heung-min’s tears after his team’s loss to Ghana, it’s easy to see the players also know they have a big mountain to climb here.
They will also be without manager Paulo Bento, who received a red card for his altercation with the referee after his side’s loss to Ghana. South Korea needs a win here, opening them up to a talented Portuguese attack.

Bruno Fernandes took care of business, scoring twice to push his country deeper into the tournament. https://t.co/wKuqNvSYau pic.twitter.com/RSd2Lfn5E7
Portugal has already qualified but won’t take any chances, as they want the group’s top spot. If they lose here and Ghana wins by a significant amount, Fernando Santos’ team will face Brazil in the Round of 16 – something that neither team wants.
While there’s bound to be some rotation so key players can rest, that doesn’t mean it will make this team any weaker. I still expect the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes on the pitch, even if that’s off the bench.
On any other day, with less at stake, I’d say South Korea had a chance of a draw here. Unfortunately, they have to win this game, leaving spaces in the midfield and defense for Portugal’s best players to run into.
Portugal scored all five goals of their goals in the second half so far, and I expect this game to be no different.
South Korea simply isn’t good enough to stop this team. Portugal should win, and the South Korean’s tournament is likely to end here.
