The Pittsburgh Steelers began the 2021 season hoping to climb the “stairway to seven.” A new offensive coordinator, a new star RB, and a rejuvenated Ben Roethlisberger provided plenty of optimism.
At 1-2, the stairway now looks like a steep climb. So what are the current Steelers Super Bowl odds? Check out this guide to learn more about where Pittsburgh stands in the latest NFL betting trends.
Bookmakers Down on the Black and Gold
Hope springs eternal in Steeler Nation, and why wouldn’t it? The Steelers are one of the NFL’s most successful franchises, boasting six Super Bowl titles.
Though they disappointed in 2020, they started the season 11-0 and boasted a top 5 defense. In addition, early reports out of training camp said veteran quarterback Big Ben showed up in the best shape of his career.
That doesn’t mean that oddsmakers bought the hype, though. Most had the Steelers at the bottom half of the NFL Super Bowl futures at the beginning of the season at around +4000.
Week 1 Fool’s Gold
The Steelers stunned the Buffalo Bills during Week 1, and early Steelers fans felt vindicated by the team’s showing. After all, Buffalo is a popular pick in the AFC.
Many observers missed the troubling signs in the first game. Buffalo dominated every crucial statistic. Josh Allen threw for 254 yards while the ground game added another 117.
Had it not been for a fluky blocked punt touchdown, the Bills may have won and covered the 6.5 spread. They didn’t, but the Pittsburgh Steelers showed very little with their win.
Limited Recent Playoff Success
The Pittsburgh Steelers last appeared in Super Bowl XLV in 2011 and lost to the Green Bay Packers. Over the past decade, the Steelers have had limited playoff success.
They were “Tebowed” in the next year’s Wild Card game against the Denver Broncos. They came up empty against the Ravens, the Broncos, and the Pats in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Their playoff woes continued last year as they lost to their rival Cleveland Browns at home.
Add all that together, and it’s easy to see why folks in the betting world haven’t liked the Steelers’ odds to win the Super Bowl.
Current Steelers Super Bowl Futures
Right now, the Steelers Super Bowl odds sit at +6600. Unfortunately, that places them firmly in the bottom half of the league.
Will the Steelers be a Super Bowl team in 2022?
Their performance during the past two weeks leaves a lot to be desired. Challenging divisional matchups against the Browns and Ravens remain.
That said, the season is still young. So buying the Steelers now for a small amount could yield a massive return in February.
Would I Buy the Steelers Super Bowl Odds?
Pittsburgh is one of the NFL’s most successful franchises. Over the last ten years, however, they haven’t had as much post-season success.
Given the team’s performance thus far, I’m wary that they’ll make the playoffs. That said, it’s a young season, and I believe the Steelers Super Bowl odds are worth a small play.
