If you think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Football Team game looks like a mismatch, you’d be right. The Football Team has been disappointing after coming into the season with high hopes after winning the NFC East last season, albeit with a 7-9 record.
The WFT defense hasn’t lived up to early-season expectations. The quarterback situation has left a lot to be desired after veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick went down with an injury early in the year. However, they did keep it relatively close in last year’s Wild Card game against the Bucs (losing 31-23), so maybe they can pull a rabbit out of their hat and stay competitive this week. Unfortunately, the NFL odds suggest otherwise, with the Bucs a -9.5 road favorite.
Even the Field With the Point Spread
While the Bucs have an excellent record at 6-2, they have struggled against the spread at just 3-5. That would be good news for Football Team bettors, except that Washington has fared even worse ATS with a 1-7 record.
Tom Brady is having a monster season and is on pace to break the single-season passing yardage mark of 5,477. He’s also 14-4 coming out of a bye, and the extra rest should do wonders for the 44-year old’s body.
I expect him to be primed for a strong stretch run and anticipate Brady and the Bucs to improve their ATS to 4-5 and cover -9.5 off of a bye week.
Bet the Money Line at Your Own Peril
Tampa is heavily favored with a -450 money line, while the Football Team pays out +350. It would take much higher odds for me to risk anything on the WFT, so I’ll leave that one alone.
And with the Bucs at -450, the reward is too small for any risk, in my opinion. So I’m personally sticking to the point spread and over/under in this one.
Fade the Over in This One
The O/U is set at 51.5 for this Sunday afternoon tilt. The Bucs have put up a lot of points this year and are currently the highest-scoring team in the league at 32.5 per game. However, on the defensive side, they surrender an average of 22.9, which places them in the middle of the pack.
I believe Tampa will put up 30+ in this game, but will the Washington Football Team be able to chip in enough to hit the over? Washington averages just 19.5 points per game and has scored a combined 33 in their last three games.
51.5 is a bit too high for me, considering Washington’s recent inability to do anything on offense. So I’ll take the under here.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Football Team: Final Word
Anything is possible in the NFL, and we were reminded of this last week when the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Super Bowl hopeful Buffalo Bills. However, I don’t see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Football Team having the kind of result.
The Bucs have high hopes to repeat as Super Bowl Champions, while the Football Team is likely looking forward to a high draft pick.
