Without Derrick Henry, it will be tough for the rest of the season for the Tennessee Titans (7-2). However, last week against the Los Angeles Rams, the Titans’ defense led the team to a stunning 28-16 victory on Sunday Night Football.
This week, the latest NFL betting lines put the Titans as a three-point home favorite when they face the New Orleans Saints (5-3).
What is the scoring potential of the Titans in Week 10?
The Tennessee Titans Upset the Rams in Week 9
The Tennessee Titans left Los Angeles last week with a big win. Momentum likely carried them into Week 10 as the home favorite. (They’d been the underdog last week by two scores.)
Can the Titans win against the Saints? It’s not going to be easy.
Last week, Matthew Stafford threw two interceptions. They were both costly.
Stafford’s first interception was at the Rams’ 10-yard line, after a 57-yard punt by the Titans. The Titans turned that into seven points with a short pass from Ryan Tannehill to tight end Geoff Swaim. (The extra point was good.)
The second interception was a 24-yard pick-six by Titans free safety Kevin Byard. It changed the momentum of the game.
On the next offensive drive for the Titans, Tannehill ran it in for a score from the one-yard line. It was the second time on that drive the Titans converted on fourth down.
That had been a 14-play, 64-yard scoring drive capping 21 points in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Titans’ first three possessions ended in punts. But the defense held the Rams to two field goals. Then, the Rams failed to convert on fourth-and-one.
When the Titans got the ball, they converted three first downs. A 59-yard drive culminated with an Adrian Peterson rushing touchdown on third-and-goal from the one-yard line.
At that point, with three minutes remaining in the game, the Titans led 28-9. To build s 19-point lead on the road without one of the best running backs in the NFL is truly astounding.
Can the Titans keep it up at home against the Saints?
Saints vs. Titans
Turnovers killed the Rams last week. Takeaway those two interceptions from Stafford, and the Rams might have won.
Instead, the Titans’ defense helped the team pull off an upset that puts them as a home favorite in Week 10.
The Saints had a wild game of their own last week in New Orleans when they hosted an NFC South rival, the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons led for most of the game until the Saints scored 22 points in the fourth quarter.
They still lost, 27-25.
Can the Titans put up more than 20 points against the Saints?
It’s possible, but they haven’t had enough time to obtain a football identity without Henry. So instead, they totaled 69 rushing yards last week against the Rams.
That’s not going to be enough to outscore the Saints.
But the Titans have a decent chance to do better than expected. Currently, the Titans are offering +110 odds for their over at 24.5. Their point total at 23.5 offers odds of -110 for the under.
Unless there are some big turnovers, I don’t think the Titans can score more than 24 points this week. Their offense still needs time to develop without their leading rusher.
