In Week 7, the Tennessee Titans (4-2) will have a tough home matchup against the rising Kansas City Chiefs (3-3). This critical game will affect the early playoff picture in the AFC.
Current NFL betting lines have the Chiefs as 5.5-point favorites.
Should you bet the Titans for the money line? Let’s take a closer look.
Derrick Henry Steamrolls Over the Buffalo Bills
In a thrilling victory on Monday Night Football, the Tennessee Titans won in the final moments after they’d stopped Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on fourth down. The real story, however, was Titans running back Derrick Henry.
Henry led the offense with 20 carries for 143 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill ran it in for a touchdown and threw for 216 yards and one interception. But Henry was unstoppable.
That kind of performance outshone the Bills’ offense, which piled up 417 total yards against the Titans. The Bills also had almost twice as many first downs as the Titans. But their failed fourth-down conversion, rather than kicking a field goal to tie the game, ended up leading to the loss, 34-31.
The Titans held the Bills to only 11 points in the second half. So, the balance between offense and defense was necessary to defeat one of the top teams favored to win the Super Bowl this year.
When they face the Chiefs this week, the Titans will need to lean into their identity as a team focused on running the football and controlling the pace of the game.
Can the Titans win against the Chiefs?
Chiefs vs. Titans
The Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs last met in January 2020 for the AFC Championship game. Henry carried the ball 19 times for just under 70 yards and four yards-per-carry during the 35-24 loss in Kansas City.
Tannehill couldn’t keep up with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw three touchdown passes in that game.
However, the Bills won on the road against the Chiefs back in Week 5, 38-20. The key to their victory seemed to be Josh Allen, whom the Titans had trouble containing as well.
So now that both teams know it takes a lot of scoring to win big games in the AFC, it looks like the Chiefs vs. Titans should be another high-scoring matchup.
The over-under at 57.5 speaks for itself.
What about the money line?
At (+185), the Titans look like a decent bet. For one thing, they’ll be at home again after a massive win against the Bills last week. The key to the game this week falls on the shoulders of Derrick Henry.
Without a doubt, the Bills’ defense is one of the best in the league. So the fact that Henry averaged 7.2 yards-per-carry against them shows that the Titans can win games even when an opposing quarterback throws for three touchdowns.
The Chiefs (-225) are an excellent offensive football team. And perhaps the Titans are the underdog because they’ve yet to show themselves capable of winning consistently against top-tier offenses in the NFL.
This might be the week they get it done against the Chiefs.
Week 7: Tennessee Titans in a High-Scoring Game
The Titans vs. Chiefs should provide a lot of scoring drives in Week 7. Many teams have shown that the Chiefs have a lot of vulnerabilities on defense. The Titans will be coming off a short week after scoring 34 against the Bills.
So this game should offer bettors and fans alike plenty of fireworks.
