The battle of rising welterweight contenders Jonathan Micallef and Oban Elliott will be witnessed on Jan. 31 as part of the UFC 325 card at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Due to his better pro record, Micallef is going to be the slight betting favorite with -140 UFC odds, while Elliott, who has two more losses than Micallef, will be the slight betting underdog with +115 odds.

UFC 325: Jonathan Micallef vs. Oban Elliott: Prediction

My prediction is a TKO/KO finish for Micallef against Elliott because of his massive reach and leg reach, which will be key in setting up a knockout blow. Micallef is a big kicker, and it’s his best weapon of choice in inflicting damage.

During his octagon debut, Micallef successfully deployed a heavy-kicking fight plan and attacked the body and head of Kevin Jousset. This allowed him to knock him down multiple times during the match.

Elliott has a tendency to dip his head too low when his opponents feint, and I think Micallef can set a trap for him when he does that to land a solid kick. But regardless if he doesn’t land this kick to the head, I believe that Micallef can get the finish in this fight.

Jonathan Micallef’s Recent Fight Results

Micallef was the former HEX Fight Series champion before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in October 2024, submitting Mohamed Ado in the opening round to earn a UFC contract. In his octagon debut in October, he unanimously beat Jousset.

Oban Elliott’s Recent Fight Results

Elliott was a Cage Warriors standout when he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2023. He eked out a close majority decision win over Kalik Brito to secure a roster spot in the UFC. Since then, he won three of his four UFC fights with victories over Val Woodburn, Preston Parsons, and Bassil Hafez. Seokhyeon Ko handed him a loss in June.
