Ranked UFC welterweight contender Yaroslav Amosov is looking to protect his position in the division’s rankings, as he takes on Joel Alvarez at UFC 328 on Saturday, which goes down inside Prudential Center in Newark.

As the fighter who’s on the top 15 rankings, Amosov is going to be the betting favorite with -190 UFC odds, while Alvarez, who currently rides a four-fight win streak, will be the betting underdog with +155 odds.

UFC 328: Joel Alvarez vs. Yaroslav Amosov: Prediction

My prediction is a submission win for Amosov over Alvarez, as he’s the better grappler and submission artist. Although Alvarez is also an elite grappler, I think Amosov is still a class above him in this category.

Alvarez has been focusing on showcasing his improved striking in his past three fights, using punches and kicks as his main weapons. Also, the Spanish MMA contender doesn’t want to engage in a clinch-and-grappling battle with an elite grappler, as seen in his previous fight with Vicente Luque.

I think Amosov will impose his grappling against Alvarez and will immediately look for a takedown in the opening stages of the match. Alvarez should be able to stop the first batch of Amosov’s attempts, but eventually, I think Amosov will secure it and work his way to a finish.

Joel Alvarez’s Recent Fight Results

Alvarez was the former AFL champion when the UFC signed him in 2019. In his last five outings inside the octagon, he has only dropped one fight to Arman Tsarukyan and won the other four against Marc Diakiese, Elves Brener, Drakkar Klose, and Luque.

Yaroslav Amosov’s Recent Fight Results

Amosov was a former Tech-Krep FC and Bellator titleholder before signing with the UFC last year. He had a dream promotional debut in December, when he submitted Neil Magny in the opening round at UFC Vegas 112.
