UFC 330: Mackenzie Dern vs. Gillian Robertson: Prediction

My prediction is a decision win for Dern over Robertson because, in this battle of Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt holders, the former’s striking skills are much better than the latter’s. The challenger’s bread and butter is her grappling, but the champion can defend her takedowns and submissions decently.

Dern has evolved from being a grappling-heavy fighter to a well-rounded champion. Her best striking weapon is the calf kick, which effectively inflicts damage on opponents and compromises their legs with cumulative damage.

Robertson mainly uses her striking to set up her takedowns, and I think Dern won’t have the problem letting go of her hands because she will have the confidence of a BJJ black belt who can stop takedowns and scramble out of submission attempts.

Mackenzie Dern’s Recent Fight Results

Dern signed with the UFC in 2018 as an undefeated contender. In her last five bouts inside the octagon, she recorded wins over Loopy Godinez, Amanda Ribas, and Virna Jandiroba, while her losses were courtesy of Amanda Lemos and Jessica Andrade.

Gillian Robertson’s Recent Fight Results

Robertson is the Ultimate Fighter 26 winner from 2017, which earned her a UFC contract. She’s on a five-fight winning streak, with victories against Polyana Viana, Michelle Waterson-Gomez, Luana Pinheiro, Marina Rodriguez, and Lemos.
