The high-stakes UFC middleweight match between ranked contenders Sean Strickland and Anthony Hernandez will headline the UFC Houston card on Feb. 21 inside the Toyota Center.

Even though he’s the former UFC middleweight titleholder, Strickland still heads into the match as the slight betting underdog with +225 UFC odds. Meanwhile, Hernandez, who’s currently on an eight-fight win streak, is going to be the betting favorite with -285 odds.

UFC Houston: Strickland vs. Hernandez: Prediction

I predict a submission victory for Hernandez over Strickland since he’s the better grappler. Both fighters have great cardio and like to pressure their opponents, but Hernandez mixes his attack effectively with striking and grappling.

Strickland uses his striking to force opponents to stand and trade with him, but Hernandez utilizes it to set up his takedowns. Once Hernandez lures Strickland to a striking exchange, I think he’ll go for a level change and put him down.

Once on the ground, Hernandez softens up his opponents by controlling them, putting his full weight against them, and firing ground and pound strikes until they yield to the submission technique he wants.

Sean Strickland’s Recent Fight Results

Strickland was the former UFC middleweight champion, and in his last five fights, he recorded three wins against Abus Magomedov, Israel Adesanya, and Paulo Costa. However, he lost two fights to Dricus Du Plessis.

Anthony Hernandez’s Recent Fight Results

Hernandez was the former LFA champion before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018. He was able to earn a spot in the promotion even though his fight with Jordan Wright ended in a no contest. He’s on an eight-fight win streak, and his last five victories were against Edmen Shahbazyan, Roman Kopylov, Michel Pereira, Brendan Allen, and Roman Dolidze.
