Japanese MMA star Kai Asakura will make his bantamweight debut on Saturday at UFC Macau, as he’s scheduled to face Cameron Smotherman at the Galaxy Arena.
Despite being winless under the Las Vegas-based promotion, Asakura still heads into the match as the betting favorite with -300 UFC odds. Meanwhile, Smotherman, who’s also on a two-fight skid, will be the +240 betting underdog.

UFC Macau: Kai Asakura vs. Cameron Smotherman: Prediction
A TKO/KO win for Asakura over Smotherman is my prediction, as he’s the faster and has more combinations in his striking arsenal. With the weight cutting out of the window for Asakura, I think he’ll be able to devote more time to coming up with a fight plan.
Both fighters are natural strikers, and without the threat of the takedown, I believe they’ll both let their hands go in this match. But the quickness and variety of strikes that Asakura has, I think he’ll catch Smotherman in one of the exchanges.
Smotherman’s best counter is to fire an enormous amount of leg kicks to try to slow down the movement and footwork of Asakura. This would also deflate Asakura’s power if he connects several times with this kick.

Asakura was a former Rizin Fighting Federation titleholder before the UFC signed him in 2024. He challenged Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC flyweight title at UFC 301, but was submitted in the second round. His most recent bout was also a submission defeat to Tim Elliott at UFC 319 in August.

Smotherman was a former Fury Fighting Championship champion before he made his octagon debut in 2024. In three appearances under the promotion, he racked up one win (Jake Hadley) and two losses (Serhiy Sidey and Ricky Simon).
