UFC Macau: Rei Tsuruya vs. Luis Gurule: Prediction
I predict a decision win for Tsuruya against Gurule because he’s the slightly better grappler and the fresher fighter heading into the match. Gurule fought in a tough match two weeks ago, and I don’t think it’s enough for him to fully recover.
With the late opponent change for Tsuruya, I think he’ll play it safe and use his top-notch clinch game and grappling skills to control Gurule. The young Japanese contender can inflict significant damage using knees on the clinch to soften up Gurule’s body.
From there, Tsuruya can work his way into a takedown and rain down ground and pound strikes to score on the judges’ scorecards. Gurule’s experience and veteran wits will allow him to survive three rounds but still lose by decision.

Tsuruya was the Road to UFC Season 2 champion in 2024, defeating Ronai Siahaan, Mark Climaco, and Jiniushiyue during the competition. He made a successful promotional debut against Carlos Hernandez at UFC 303 with a decision victory. But Joshua Van handed him a defeat in his second octagon appearance in March 2025.

Gurule was the former Fury Fighting Championship titleholder before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024, where he defeated Nick Piccininni. He dropped his first three bouts in the UFC to Ode’ Osbourne, Jesus Aguilar, and Alden Coria before he finally got a win against Daniel Baez two weeks ago at UFC Vegas 117 card.
