The opening match of the UFC Mexico card on Saturday will feature the welterweight match between debutants Damian Pinas and Wes Schultz, who both earned their roster spots via Dana White’s Contender Series.

Due to his 100% finish rate, Pinas will be the betting favorite heading into the match with -275 UFC odds. On the other hand, Schultz is going to be the betting underdog with +220 odds.

UFC Mexico: Damian Pinas vs. Wes Schultz: Prediction

With the power and explosiveness of Pinas, I predict a TKO/KO win for him over Schultz. Pinas’ high guard allows him to telegraph the attack of his opponents and pressure them off the back foot as he steps forward.

Schultz has previously struggled with power punchers like Pinas because he’s too worried of the power that swings to his direction. This makes him vulnerable to forced striking exchanges to keep them off of him.

I think that Pinas will be super aggressive early in the match because even if they end up in a clinch position or a grappling scramble, he’ll be able to easily break it against Schultz. Pinas, though, should be cautious of the quick level change of Schultz, as he’s a very tricky submission artist.

Damian Pinas’ Recent Fight Results

Pinas was the former Victory Extreme Fighting Championship titleholder before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in October. He fought Vitor Costa and scored a first-round TKO finish to secure a UFC contract.

Wes Schultz’s Recent Fight Results

Schultz’s route to the UFC was also through Dana White’s Contender Series, where he submitted Mario Mingaj in the opening round of the match to earn a roster spot under the Las Vegas-based promotion.
