Wes Schultz will have a quick turnaround after dropping his previous fight less than two months ago, as he welcomes Benjamin Johnston to the UFC on Saturday at UFC Perth, which goes down inside the RAC Arena in Australia.
Even though he’s the newcomer to the promotion, Johnston heads into the match as the betting favorite with -150 UFC odds, while Schultz, who lost via knockout in his most recent outing, will be the +125 betting underdog.

UFC Perth: Benjamin Johnston vs. Wes Schultz: Prediction
My prediction is a submission win for Johnston over Schultz, as he has sleeker and quicker submission transitions. Even though both are incredible grapplers in their own right, I think Johnston’s experience and fight IQ will come through.
Schultz may have the better striking skills, but once on the clinch, he doesn’t automatically look to submit his opponents. Instead, he uses ground-and-pound to soften them up first before looking for major opportunities.
This is the direct opposite of Johnston’s approach, as he immediately imposes his grappling skills and quickly shifts into immediate submission attempts. This is where his championship experience outside the UFC shines.
Benjamin Johnston’s Recent Fight Results
Johnston was the former Eternal MMA champion before the UFC signed him to a contract this year. He’s currently on a four-fight win streak with victories over Kahn Sandy, Emil Jeries, Yoon Seo Shin, and John Martin Fraser.
Wes Schultz’s Recent Fight Results
Schultz earned a UFC contract via Dana White’s Contender Series in October when he submitted Mario Mingaj in the first round. His octagon debut didn’t go as planned, as Damian Pinas defeated him via first-round finish in March at UFC Mexico.
