UFC veteran contender Gerald Meerschaert and rising contender Jacob Malkoun are set to battle each other in a middleweight bout at UFC Perth on Saturday, which goes down inside the RAC Arena in Australia.

Due to his four-fight losing streak, Meerschaert is going to be the heavy betting underdog with +700 UFC odds, while Malkoun, who’s on a two-fight win streak, will be the considerable betting favorite with -1100 odds.

UFC Perth: Jacob Malkoun vs. Gerald Meerschaert: Prediction

A TKO/KO finish for Malkoun is my prediction over Meerschaert, as he’s the more aggressive and busy fighter who produces a lot of output. Malkoun’s pressure and pace are similar to Sean Strickland, and he uses his boxing to back up his opponents and the fence.

At this point in Meerchasert’s career, he’s a step slower and has a compromised chin from all the battles he’s had inside the octagon. Malkoun’s speed and movement will allow him to connect early in the fight, much like how Meerschaert’s last two opponents did.

Even if Meerschaert decides to come up with a grappling-heavy strategy against Malkoun, I don’t think he has the same athleticism and strength as he did a few years ago to hold down an opponent in his prime and potentially submit him.

Jacob Malkoun’s Recent Fight Results

Malkoun made his UFC debut in October 2020. In his last five appearances in the promotion, he racked up three wins against Nick Maximov, Andre Petroski, and Torrez Finney, but lost to Brendan Allen and Cody Brundage.

Gerald Meerschaert’s Recent Fight Results

Meerschaert is a 10-year UFC veteran and has competed in two different weight classes. But in his last five bouts inside the octagon, he has only won once against Edmen Shahbazyan and lost the other four to Reinier de Ridder, Brad Tavares, Michal Oleksiejczuk, and Kyle Daukaus.
