Ranked middleweight contenders Reinier de Ridder and Brendan Allen will headline the UFC Vancouver card on Oct. 18, inside Rogers Arena in Canada.

With a 4-0 record in the UFC, de Ridder heads into the match as the betting favorite with -210 UFC odds. Allen, on the other hand, who’s coming off a bounce-back win from his previous fight, will be the +170 betting underdog.

I predict that de Ridder will win via submission against Allen because of his elite jiu-jitsu skills and his unique way of maneuvering toward a submission attempt. Also, he has the advantage in physicality, which will come in handy when he shoots for a takedown.

“The Dutch Knight” has the option to go straight for a takedown directly and use every inch of physical advantage to overpower Allen, or he could set up a takedown using his signature knee strikes to the body to inflict significant damage.

Another reason de Ridder is likely to win is that he’ll have a full camp to prepare, unlike Alle, who stepped in on less than a month’s notice to replace the injured Anthony Hernandez, the original opponent.

Making a statement in this fight for de Ridder is important since he’s one of the front-runners to challenge for the UFC middleweight title that Khamzat Chimaev currently holds, and a subpar performance or a decision victory won’t earn him a shot for gold.

De Ridder was a former Hit-FC and two-division ONE Championship champion when he joined the UFC in 2024. He made his debut against Gerald Meerschaert and got the submission victory in the third round.

He quickly added Kevin Holland and Bo Nickal to his wins before he faced the former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker last July in the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi to earn his spot in the division’s top 5 rankings.

Allen was a former LFA champion before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2019, where he defeated Aaron Jeffrey to earn a roster spot under the Las Vegas-based promotion. He made his octagon debut against Holland and submitted him in the second round of their October 2019 bout.

Since then, Allen has won 11 of his next 15 fights in the UFC, with notable wins over Bruno Silva, Paul Craig, and Chris Curtis. His most recent victory was against Marvin Vettori last July at UFC 318 via unanimous decision.
