An exciting flyweight match between Jafel Filho and Cody Durden will be witnessed Saturday at UFC Vegas 116 inside the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Because he’s the short-notice replacement opponent, Durden is going to be the overwhelming betting underdog with +500 UFC odds. Meanwhile, Filho will be the heavy betting favorite with -700 odds.

UFC Vegas 116: Jafel Filho vs. Cody Durden: Prediction

My prediction is a submission win for Filho over Durden due to his top-notch submission skills backed by his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt credential. Durden may have an aggressive wrestling style, but he’s very susceptible in submissions, especially to BJJ specialists as his head is always exposed.

Even if Durden secures a takedown against Filho, I think the Brazilian contender will still be able to work his way into a submission finish. Another major factor to consider in this match, is the short-notice acceptance of Durden as Filho’s opponent.

Durden accepted the fight in six-day notice to face Filho when his original opponent pulled out due to injury, and I think he hasn’t fully recovered from his gruelling match against Nyamjargal Tumendemberel last month.

Jafel Filho’s Recent Fight Results

Filho was the former Shooto Brazil champion before he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in September 2022. Since earning a UFC contract, he has racked up three wins (Daniel Barez, Ode’ Osbourne, and Clayton Carpenter) and two losses (Muhammad Mokaev and Allan Nascimento).

Cody Durden’s Recent Fight Results

Durden is a UFC veteran who has been with the promotion since 2020. However, he’s currently on a four-fight losing streak with defeats to Joshua Van, Jose Ochoa, Nascimento, and Tumendemberel. His last win was against Matt Schnell in September 2024.
