The opening bout of the upcoming UFC Vegas 116 card this Saturday will be a women’s strawweight clash between Talita Alencar and Julia Polastri. They’ll throw hands inside the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Both fighters are coming off wins in their previous bouts, but Alencar is going to be the betting underdog with +200 UFC odds, while Polastri will be the -250 betting favorite.

UFC Vegas 116: Talita Alencar vs. Julia Polastri: Prediction

I predict a unanimous decision win for Polastri over Alencar because she’s a better striker, and her takedown defense is decent enough to counter the attempts from her fellow Brazilian contender. Despite having the better grappling skills, Alencar’s fighting style is not ideal for setting up her attacks.

Alencar doesn’t control the center of the octagon, which allows her opponents to telegraph her takedowns. Meanwhile, Polastri will enjoy a 5-inch reach advantage, which she can use to fight on the outside and inflict damage.

If Alencar fails to secure several takedowns during the match, this fight will become a striking masterclass for Polastri because she is quicker and more nimble. A TKO/KO finish is also a possibility for Polastri if the fight doesn’t go full three rounds.

Talita Alencar’s Recent Fight Results

Alencar is a product of Dana White’s Contender Series  where in 2023 she had a draw result with Stephanie Luciano that earned her a UFC contract. Since then, she has won three of her four UFC fights, with victories over Rayanne dos Santos, Vanessa Demopoulos, and Ariane Carnelossi. Her lone loss came against Luciano in their rematch.

Julia Polastri’s Recent Fight Results

Polastri was a former LFA champion before she also joined Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023. She submitted Patricia Alujas in the competition to secure a UFC contract. She has split her first four UFC matches, with wins over Cory McKenna and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, while losing to Josefine Knutsson and Loopy Godinez.
