UFC Vegas 118: Matt Schnell vs. Alessandro Costa: Prediction
With more power in his strikes, I predict a TKO/KO finish for Costa over Schnell. Costa’s punching power is a luxury to have, especially in his weight class because once he connects with a clean punch or kick, they’ll immediately get knocked down.
The only thing he needs to do is be aggressive and let his hands go, because at times he’s gun-shy of throwing combinations. Also, he must keep the distance close between him and Schnell, as he’s at a disadvantage in terms of physicality.
If Costa presses forward, forces Schnell onto the back foot, and creates a chaotic exchange, I think he’ll be able to land a powerful punch straight to Schnell’s chin. If Schnell survives this barrage, Costa can transition into a ground-and-pound or a submission.
Matt Schnell’s Recent Fight Results
Schnell was a former LFC titleholder when the UFC signed him in 2016. However, he has only won one fight in his last five fights inside the octagon, with a victory over Jimmy Flick. Schnell dropped the other four to Matheus Nicolau, Steve Erceg, Cody Durden, and Joseph Morales.
Alessandro Costa’s Recent Fight Results
Costa was the Lux Fight Series champion when he joined Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022. He defeated Juan Andres Luna to earn a UFC roster spot. Since he arrived in the promotion, he has split his six fights with three wins (Flick, Kevin Borjas, and Stewart Nicoll) and three losses (Amir Albazi, Erceg, and Alden Coria).
