The USA has been impressive so far. The midfield trio of Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, and Tyler Adams ran a star-studded England team ragged in their last game, and they will be crucial against Iran.
While the USA’s draw against Wales was disappointing, the draw against England boosted this team’s confidence. The defense has held steady so far, with Gareth Bales’ penalty the only goal against the USA. The scoring just hasn’t come for this side yet, but it could prove easier against Iran.
Iran let England score on six of their seven shots on target, and this would be the perfect opportunity for Christian Pulisic to come right in front of goal. The USA is an aggressive team with a high press that likes to control the tempo, with 59% of the possession against Wales and 44% against England.

On the other hand, Iran had just 21% of the possession against England and 38% against Wales. Although Carlos Queiroz’s team was better than Wales for most of the match, they needed the Dragons to go down to 10 men to break through their defense.
Ultimately, the USMNT’s fate is in their hands, and I think that they deserve to advance given their promising performances so far. Although a draw will be enough for Iran, I think they will try to win this match, and it will be up to their defense to match USA’s pace.
I’m going with the USA to win by a narrow margin.
