Week 11 of NFL football is approaching, and as the second half of the season gets underway, the NFL playoff picture becomes clearer. Several teams are still in the hunt, as only four teams in the NFL have two or fewer wins.

So, which games will shape the NFL playoffs? Let’s take a look.

Patriots at Falcons

This Thursday night game will affect the wild card races in both the AFC and the NFC.

New England is currently 6-4 and holding the second wild card in the AFC after coming off an imposing blowout win vs. Cleveland. As for Atlanta, they lost momentum last week after getting blown out by the Cowboys and falling out of the playoffs.

In many years, having a 4-5 record may not mean a legitimate shot at the playoffs, but because Carolina is only 5-5 and currently holds the last NFC wild card, the Falcons are very much alive.

The Patriots can solidify their playoff position if they win this game, while the Falcons can get closer to a playoff spot if they can pull off the upset.

Saints at Eagles

At the beginning of this season, I didn’t expect to be talking about these two teams as playoff contenders just over halfway through the 2021 season.

New Orleans holds the sixth seed in the NFC at 5-4, and Philadelphia is just one game behind the seventh seed at 4-6. However, the big thing for the Eagles is that they have already beaten Carolina head-to-head this year, who currently holds the last spot.

The Saints have lost their last two games after upsetting Tampa Bay, and at one point, they looked like a near-lock to make the postseason. However, if they lose this game, they are putting the sixth seed back up for grabs with every NFC team besides the Lions in the running to take it.

As for the Eagles, not only would they keep pace if they win, but they would also have the tiebreaker over every NFC South wild card contender.

Bengals at Raiders

Right now, both of these teams sit at 5-4 on the bubble to make it to the playoffs.

Cincinnati is coming off a bye, losing to the Jets right before that. The Raiders have had everything go wrong internally, and it is now starting to show on the field, with them losing their last two games.

With how tight the AFC wild-card race is, it is hard to count either team out if they lose this game, but it is fair to think that the loser may not recover after this game.

Steelers at Chargers

In the Sunday night game this week, both teams have a chance to show what they are made of in the national spotlight.

Pittsburgh has not lost in their last five games, but you can argue they have been winning very ugly, only winning by a combined 18 points. Last week, they failed to beat a winless Lions team.

The Chargers have had some recent troubles in home games, with two straight home losses to the Patriots and Vikings.

Pittsburgh currently holds the top wild-card spot, while Los Angeles is in the playoff bubble. Therefore, the winner of this game gains a significant edge in possible tiebreakers for this race.
