It’s Week 5 in the NFL, which means some teams have their eyes on the playoffs, while other teams are starting to evaluate their needs for the offseason. On Sunday, October 10th at 4:25 PM, the San Francisco 49ers will face the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale in a game between two playoff hopefuls.
NFL betting odds have the Cardinals listed as five-point favorites for this game. Can San Francisco pull off an upset and stay in the NFC West race?
Let’s take a closer look at the 49ers at Cardinals in Week 5.
Cardinals Dominated the Rams in Week 4
The San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals game is a crucial one in the NFC West. In Week 4, the Cardinals tore through the Los Angeles Rams defense.
Arizona Quarterback Kyler Murray looked spectacular on the road, throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He also averaged 6.5 yards per rush, with his ability to create out of the pocket on full display.
Chase Edmonds carried the ball 12 times for 120 yards, while James Conner ran for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Through the air, Murray spread the ball to seven different targets. An early touchdown pass to new wide receiver A.J. Green led the way. Tight end Maxx Williams also had 66 yards and one touchdown.
The 37-20 victory against the Rams put the Cardinals in first place in the NFC West.
What about the 49ers?
49ers Took a Tough Loss at Home
In Week 4, the 49ers lost a challenging game at home against the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks had four offensive touchdowns against the 49ers’ defense.
On offense, the 49ers lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a right calf injury during the game. Garoppolo threw for 165 yards, one touchdown, and an interception before being replaced by rookie Trey Lance, a first-round draft pick.
Lance had a decent performance, throwing for 157 yards and two touchdowns after replacing Garoppolo at the beginning of the third quarter.
Even though the 49ers led the game in total yards, first downs, and time of possession, their two turnovers were costly.
Their rookie quarterback is going to have his hands full next week against one of the best teams in the NFL.
49ers at Cardinals: NFL Betting Odds for Week 5
Now, it’s time to check out some of the NFL betting odds for the 49ers at Cardinals.
Since the Cardinals looked stunning against the Rams last week, it’s no surprise they’re favored at home by five points (-110) against the 49ers. However, the line will likely change somewhat throughout the week.
The money line heavily favors the Cardinals (-275) to beat the 49ers (+210). Betting against a rookie quarterback seems like a decent wager. The Cardinals are a first-place team after dominating the Rams on the road.
Keep in mind that the Rams had just come off a 10-point home victory against the former Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So, it’s plausible that Lance learns a thing or two from Murray, a third-year starter who’s an early favorite for the 2021 MVP award.
The over-under point total for the 49ers vs. Cardinals opened at 50.5 (-110). Look for a high-scoring game in Glendale this week.
Can the Cardinals Win the NFC West?
The NFC West is shaping up to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. That’s what makes the Cardinals’ 4-0 start so impressive.
This week, if they win at home, it will put them one step closer to winning the NFC West in 2021. The Cardinals should have a great game against the 49ers.
