Week 9 is upon us in the NFL, and with that comes the latest batch of NFL betting lines from BetMGM.
After looking at the latest NFL spreads, which teams have the best chance of covering these NFL point spreads? Here are three teams that stand out.
1. Bills (-14.5) at Jaguars
This game pits one of the best teams against one of the worst. The Bills are 5-2 and a popular pick to win the Super Bowl, while the Jaguars are 1-6.
Not only are these two far apart in overall record, but also their ATS records. This year, the Bills have been one of the top five teams in the NFL ATS with a 4-2-1 record, and the Jaguars are in the bottom five at 2-5.
Besides records, these teams also have lopsided turnover margins. The Bills lead the NFL in turnover margin with +13, and the Jaguars are last in the NFL at -11.
With all of that in mind, this is not the first time we have seen the Bills as big favorites against an inferior opponent. They won and covered every time (depending on when you got the line vs. the Dolphins last week).
There is no reason for me to think that the Bills cannot get the job done again this week on the road in Jacksonville.
2. Bears (+6.5) at Steelers
Some people may question this pick after what happened in Week 8, but I think there is a legitimate argument for the Bears here. I tend to like teams that get just under a touchdown in points because they often provide the best value.
Here, I would not trust the Steelers giving up six and a half points because they have a hard time putting up points themselves, averaging just 19 points per game.
Admittedly, the Bears’ offense has been even worse so far, only averaging about 15 points per game. However, the Bears do not have to win the game. They just have to lose by six or fewer points.
I think this is something that they can do against an offense like the Steelers, considering that Pittsburgh is 0-3 ATS as a favorite this season.
3. Falcons (+6) at Saints
Finally, I like the Falcons to cover on the road against the Saints this week because it looks like a perfect letdown spot for New Orleans. They are coming off of their biggest win of the season against Tampa Bay, and after they play the Falcons, they’ll travel to Nashville to take on the Titans. The injury to Jameis Winston is also going to hurt the team.
With that in mind, the Saints could be in danger of overlooking a less talented team like the Falcons in the middle of facing two of the more talented teams in the NFL.
The Saints tend to be a better underdog than a favorite ATS this year, with them having a 3-0 record ATS as an underdog and just a 1-3 record ATS as a favorite.
If that was not enough, New Orleans is facing some uncertainty this week with starting QB Jameis Winston likely out for the season with a torn ACL.
Admittedly, the Falcons have their own problems, but with Atlanta a little more desperate and playing a division rival, I expect them to put up a fight next week.
