Over in the NFC, the Washington Football Team (3-6) will visit the Carolina Panthers (5-5) in Week 11. After two significant victories for both franchises last week, this game has a heightened appeal.
Current NFL betting lines show the home team to be favored by little more than a field goal. For the WFT at Panthers matchup, which team has the best chance to win this week?
Let’s find out.
Week 11: Which is the Better NFC Team?
Last week, the WFT stunned as the home victor against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The WFT looked like the much better football team.
Taylor Heinicke threw for 256 yards and one touchdown. Antonio Gibson carried the ball 24 times for only 64 yards, but he ran for two rushing scores.
Tom Brady, on the other hand, threw two interceptions. Both came in the first quarter. The WFT got 10 points from those turnovers.
In the fourth quarter, a 19-play, 80-yard scoring drive from the WTF ate up 10 minutes. That left the Bucs down by two scores with less than 30 seconds remaining.
The WFT won, 29-19.
In another shocking upset, the Panthers won on the road against the Arizona Cardinals, 34-10. (The Cardinals were without starters Kyler Murray, Chase Edmonds, and DeAndre Hopkins.)
The Panthers put up 17 points in the first quarter. They led at half-time, 23-0.
Cam Newton Returns for the Panthers in Week 11
With quarterback Sam Darnold sidelined, the Panthers put former starter Cam Newton back on their payroll. He’d been released in March 2020 after eight seasons with the team.
Newton replaced P.J. Walker (Darnold’s backup) on their first possession last week with a second-and-goal at the two-yard line. He ran for a touchdown on his first play of the game.
Next, the Panthers stopped the Cardinals on a fourth-and-short at midfield. Then a Christian McCaffrey touchdown eventually got reversed. Again, from the two-yard line, Newton came under-center, throwing a touchdown pass to Robby Anderson.
Newton has signed a one-year deal with the Panthers for the remainder of the season. He’s expected to start at home this week.
Which team has the best chance to win for the WFT at Panthers?
NFL Week 11: WFT at Panthers
Going by the money line, the Panthers (-190) are a solid favorite to win in Week 11. The WFT (+155) offers some risky potential. They are 1-3 in their last four road games.
The Panthers have a 2-3 record at home, with both victories coming in the first two weeks of the season. Could they win this week with Newton bringing back a revivified chemistry to the team?
According to the NFL playoff picture, the Panthers are five games ahead of the WFT in the NFC. So for the WFT at Panthers, I’ll take the home team.
