The World Baseball Classic won’t use the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System during the 2026 competition.
After a few years of testing the ABS in the minors, Major League Baseball will introduce the challenge system during the 2026 regular season. The system uses Hawk-Eye tracking technology to measure the precise location of a pitch in relation to the batter’s strike zone.
However, the ABS system won’t be in place for this year’s WBC in March. The World Baseball Classic will only use replay review for calls that aren’t related to the strike zone.
