The 2026 WNBA season gets underway with a full weekend of games, starting with a tripleheader on Friday night. I dive into the latest WNBA odds and share my favorite picks and predictions for the opening weekend.
WNBA Predictions & Best Bets for Opening Weekend
- Sun vs. Liberty Under 162.5 (-110)
- Wings vs. Fever Under 176.5 (-110)
Sun vs. Liberty Prediction for Friday
In the first game of the 2026 WNBA season, I’m riding with the under on the full-game total of 162.5 for Friday’s matchup between the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty.
The Liberty might have the best roster in WNBA history, but things won’t be firing on all cylinders in the opener. Not only do they have a first-year head coach in Chris DeMarco, but they’ll be missing Sabrina Ionescu and Leonie Fiebich. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton and Satou Sabally are also game-time decisions.
As for the Sun, this is a young team that will be disruptive on defense. They are missing Leila Lacan, who is arguably their best player.
This is a rematch from the preseason, in which the Liberty earned a 79-67 win. I wouldn’t be surprised by a similar result on Friday, which is why I project value on this under at 161 or better.
Wings vs. Fever Prediction for Saturday
I’m taking another under on the full-game total for the marquee matchup of the opening weekend between the Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever. I like the under at 175.5 or better.
This is another rematch from the preseason when the Wings secured a 95-80 victory. Both teams played at a rapid pace in the preseason, which is why their total in Game 1 is the highest mark of the weekend.
However, I’m expecting more defensive effort in a game that matters. The Wings made a concerted effort to get better defensively by bringing in Alanna Smith (co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025) and Jessica Shepard.
The Fever aim to improve on their seventh-ranked defense in Stephanie White’s second year at the helm. They went 2-1 to the under on totals of 175.5 or higher last year, and with an added element of rust in the opener, I prefer to bet against too many points on Saturday.
