I’m targeting a pair of angles for Tuesday’s Wings vs. Lynx matchup. I like Minnesota’s moneyline value at -165 or better, and I also like the idea of backing Lynx guard Olivia Miles to score 17-plus points.
Honestly, a parlay of those two predictions is worth exploring once player props become available. But the thing is, both picks are correlated to what I expect to happen in this matchup.
There has been plenty of debate about whether or not the Wings should have drafted Miles with the No. 1 pick. Miles, who went No. 2 to Minnesota, has established herself as the clear WNBA Rookie of the Year odds favorite.
So far this season, Miles is averaging 17.2 points, five rebounds, and 6.4 assists per contest. She’s emerged as one of the best pick-and-roll creators in the league in her debut season. Per Props Madness, 50% of Miles’ scoring comes from pick-and-rolls.
Fortunately for Miles, the Wings rank 10th in defending pick-and-roll ball-handlers. They’ve yet to settle on the right frontcourt rotation, as prized free agent Alanna Smith (last year’s co-Defensive Player of the Year) has struggled with her new team.
I envision a scenario in which Miles goes off in a Lynx victory, sparking more debate about whether the Wings made the wrong choice by taking Azzi Fudd with the No. 1 pick. I have my doubts that Miles would have performed as well in Dallas next to Paige Bueckers, but that doesn’t really matter for the context of Tuesday’s matchup.
