Who Will Win WNBA Sixth Player of the Year in 2026?

Las Vegas Aces guard Chennedy Carter begins the 2026 WNBA season as the betting favorite for Sixth Player of the Year at +400, implying a 20% chance.

The Aces have dominated this award in recent years, producing four different winners since 2019. Dearica Hamby captured back-to-back honors in 2019 and 2020, followed by Kelsey Plum in 2021, Alysha Clark in 2023, and Tiffany Hayes in 2024.

Given that history, it’s no surprise Carter sits atop the market, especially if she’s deployed as a high-usage scorer off the bench in Las Vegas’ system.

Originally drafted by the Atlanta Dream in 2020, Carter has started 49 of her 84 career games while averaging 14.6 points per contest. She posted a career-high 17.5 points per game in 2024 with the Chicago Sky and returned from a year away in 2025 with an 18-point preseason showing, suggesting her scoring ability remains intact.

If that level of production carries into the regular season, Carter could separate herself quickly — especially on an Aces team that has won three of the last four championships and is once again expected to contend. Team success has historically mattered in this market; the last Sixth Player of the Year winner from outside the league’s top four came in 2014.

That trend continued in 2025, when Naz Hillmon earned the award for Atlanta. She averaged 8.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for a Dream squad that secured the No. 3 seed, later increasing her production after moving into the starting lineup.

Hillmon (+1000) enters as one of Carter’s top challengers, though her role could shift following Atlanta’s offseason acquisition of Angel Reese.

Elsewhere, depth on top contenders could shape the race. The New York Liberty feature multiple candidates between Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, Leonie Fiebich, and Marine Johannès, depending on which player doesn’t earn a starting job. In Las Vegas, Jewell Loyd is another name to monitor if she remains in a bench role, especially considering the team’s late-season surge came after her move to the second unit.

The Indiana Fever could also produce a contender depending on how Sophie Cunningham or Raven Johnson perform off the bench.

For now, though, Carter’s scoring profile, role, and team context make her the early frontrunner in this market.

Prediction: Chennedy Carter
