Christian Eriksen-Inspired Denmark Can Beat France
𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐓! 💥 Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen was absolutely key for his side against France as they beat them 2-0 in the UEFA Nations League.#Fanatikk #Football #Denmark #ChristianEriksen #UEFA #NationsLeague #UEFANationsLeague #FootballStats #Eriksen pic.twitter.com/R7qVgSh6QE

Christian Eriksen is playing well for Manchester United, and it’s hard to believe just a little over a year ago he collapsed and received CPR on the pitch in the Euros.
Eriksen’s comeback has been a testament to his mindset and determination, giving his team an extra bit of passion and drive going into the World Cup.
France undoubtedly has the more talented team on paper, with players like Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema, and Antoine Griezmann. However, World Cup games don’t take place on paper, and Denmark could surprise Les Blues.
Kasper Hjulmand’s team has won five of their last seven international matches, and they’ve been particularly impressive against France in recent meetings. The Danes were in the same group as Les Blues in the UEFA Nations League this summer, and they beat the current world champions twice.
Denmark is not the favorite to win Group D, but I think they are worth backing for the top spot. Eriksen has made a remarkable recovery, and I see this team doing everything they can to make him proud.
A Curse has Plagued Previous World Cup Winners in Group Stages
The World Cup champions' curse 🥵
— Skores (@skoresofficial) April 2, 2022
The 3 last World Cup winners have been eliminated in the group stage 😳
Will France break the curse? 👀#qatar2022 #worldcup #pogba #muller #ramos #cannavaro #italy #france #germany #spain pic.twitter.com/OB6D86PzHI
Call it a curse, bad luck, or overconfidence; whatever name you give it, there’s no denying the pattern that has taken place over the last few FIFA World Cups.
The defending World Cup champions get knocked out during the group stages often.
Italy did not make it out of their group in 2010. Spain didn’t make it out of their group in 2014, and Germany got knocked out in the group stage in 2018.
Les Blues had a summer to forget, as they lost three, drew two, and only won a single match in the UEFA Nations League tournament. Their midfield has also been hit hard, with injuries to Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante likely to keep them out of the tournament.
This team is nowhere near as strong as they were when they clinched the title in 2018, and I don’t see them winning the group.
Australia Faces Denmark and France Again
Everything you need to know 🧠🤓👇#Socceroos #GiveIt100
— Subway Socceroos (@Socceroos) October 26, 2022
The Socceroos are a team that know how to put up a fight, but they don’t seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to the group stages.
This is the second time in a row Australia has found itself in the same group as France and Denmark. In 2018, they managed a 1-1 draw to Denmark and France needed a last-minute own goal to beat Australia 2-1, but the Aussies still finished the group in last place.
I certainly see Australia beating Tunisia, but advancing to the next round might be a little bit of a stretch unless France really stumbles out of the gates.
Tunisia Has Never Made it Out of a Group Stage
🇹🇳👏 It's a sixth #WorldCup qualification for Tunisia!#WCQ | #WorldCup | @tunisiefootball pic.twitter.com/c4WVwe5QZT
— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) March 29, 2022
This will be Tunisia’s sixth World Cup appearance, and they’ve yet to make it out of the group stage.
Tunisia gave England a scare in 2018 when Harry Kane rescued the Three Lions with an injury-time winner. They also won against Panama in that tournament, so they should be confident enough to perform well on the big stage.
That being said, I don’t think they will get a win against Denmark or France and will drop out at the group stage once again.
Group D Prediction
I’m going to go against the odds and give Denmark the top spot in Group D, with France advancing second.
I don’t think that Tunisia will be able to beat any of these teams, so Australia will end up in third, with Tunisia at the bottom.
