Kylian Mbappe takes on Erling Haaland as France and Norway battle for Group I winner.
France sits on six points after dispatching Iraq 3-0 on Matchday 2. They carry a slight edge over Norway for the top spot in Group I due to a superior goal differential.
Norway secured a knockout round spot with a 3-2 win over Senegal on Matchday 2. To win Group I, they need a win over France in Foxborough.

Norway vs France Prediction
[Writer’s Note: Reports are indicating Norway will rotate starters against France, including Erling Haaland. Accordingly, it’s better to consider France Over 2.5 Goals. However, bettors should be cautious as France only needs a win to win the group].Â
Based on Norway’s troubling defensive metrics against Senegal and their need to go for it, my France vs Norway prediction is the Total Over 2.5 Goals (-145).
It wouldn’t surprise me if France beats the total on their own. However, I want to allow for the possibility that Norway contributes to the total against a good France defense.
Goals have flowed thus far in Norway matches. The attack thrived in a 4-1 win over Iraq before a five-goal thriller against Senegal.
In the latter match, the teams combined for 3.92 expected goals, 3.3 post-shot xG and eight big scoring chances.
Senegal surged to 1.7 xG and three big chances in Norway’s first recent test. The match marked only the fifth time since Sept. 2024 Norway played a top-25 ELO rated team.
France offers another step forward for the Norway defense. Since 2024, Norway has faced zero games against teams fifth or better in the ELO ratings.
If that weren’t concerning enough, Norway needs to go for it in attack if they want to win the group. It will leave their defense vulnerable on the counter against the tournament’s best attack.
Additionally, right back Julian Ryerson likely misses the short turnaround for Norway. It should lead to chances from France created by wingers Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola.
At the same time, I rate this match a strong sell-high opportunity on the French defense. In terms of attacking prowess, Norway rates as their hardest opponent of the group stage.
Erling Haaland directly challenges France’s central strength, while Martin Odegaard’s creativity should exploit the midfield.
Presuming Norway pushes for goals, I like their chances to add at least one goal. Even if they don’t score, France’s attacking ceiling offers a secondary possibility to clear the total.
