What’s the Furthest USA Has Gone at the World Cup?

Team USA recorded its best World Cup finish at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea/Japan. Twenty-two years ago, the team reached the quarterfinals before falling to Germany.

At recent World Cups, the U.S. consistently reached the knockout rounds but rarely played more than one game.

In 2010 and 2014, the USMNT reached the round of 16. At those tournaments, the round of 16 marked the start of the knockout phase of play.

After failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, the United States fell to the Netherlands in the round of 16.

All the way back in 1930, the USMNT finished third at the World Cup. However, it came at a tournament where they played only three matches.
