How Many Countries Have Won the World Cup?

New Player OfferBetting Promos

Only eight countries have experienced a World Cup victory since the tournament began in 1930.

Every single winner of the 22 World Cups came from either Europe or South America. The former accounts for 12 of 22 victories, while the latter achieved 10 World Cup crowns.

Brazil leads the set of eight countries with five World Cup victories. However, not since the 2002 FIFA World Cup has the South American nation won the tournament.

Other South American nations to win the World Cup include 2022 winner Argentina. Their success in Qatar marked a third World Cup win and the first since 1986.

Uruguay rounds out the successes for the CONMEBOL confederation with two wins. However, Uruguay’s successes date back to 1930 and 1950.

Regarding the 12 UEFA successes, Germany and Italy lead the list of winners. Both countries won four World Cups apiece, including one each since the 2006 World Cup.

France added two wins for Europe’s confederation (1998 and 2018). Spain and England round out the successes with victories in 2010 and 1966.
