The 2022 FIFA World Cup saw an increase in scoreless draws.

Seven matches finished 0-0 at the latest World Cup in Qatar. It brought the total number of scoreless matches at the World Cup to 78 total fixtures across 22 editions of the event.

Those seven 2022 fixtures tied the record for most goalless draws at a single World Cup. The same number of goalless draws occurred in 2014, 2010 and 2006.

Before that stretch, the 1982 World Cup saw the highest number of goalless draws.

At the last summer World Cup 2018 in Russia, teams produced superior attacking records. Only one match across the entire tournament finished goalless: France vs Denmark.

It marked the first time since the 1958 FIFA World Cup an entire tournament saw under 2.5 goalless draws.
