Ivory Coast vs Norway Prediction

Based on Norway’s defensive record in the group stage and Ivory Coast’s success against Germany, my Norway vs Ivory Coast prediction is Ivory Coast 1H Over 0.5 Goals (+150).

Ivory Coast provided a challenge to the German defense on Matchday 2 in Group E. Now they play an inferior Norway defense that looked vulnerable against fellow African side Senegal.

The Ivory Coast raced out to a 1-0 advantage against Germany after 30 minutes. For the match, manager Emerse Fae’s squad created 1.2 expected goals and 1.1 post-shot xG.

Before the tournament, the Ivory Coast came from 1-0 down against France to win 2-1. Albeit in a meaningless friendly, the African outfit generated 0.9 xG against a strong defense.

Norway has struggled to keep teams at bay in competition. Iraq found a first-half tally off 0.74 xG in Boston before Senegal scored two second-half goals.

The latter match showed Norway’s vulnerability to conceding chances in bunches. During the second half, Senegal created 1.4 expected goals and three big scoring chances.

Plus, I question the perception of Norway’s defense. The unit conceded only five goals in eight World Cup qualifying matches, but played six games against Estonia, Israel and Moldova.

Inferior teams showed that Norway is open to allowing chances, especially if they run up the score.

At the 2024 Nations League, Norway played two matches against Slovenia. As it stands, the UEFA side sits 47th in soccer’s ELO ratings, whereas the Ivory Coast ranks 38th.

Slovenia scored a first-half penalty kick at home en route to 1.3 expected goals in the first half.

Those factors lead me to predict the underdogs find an early goal in Dallas at a higher frequency than their price suggests.
