  • Spain is predicted to be a 2.5-goal favorite against Cape Verde.
  • Including qualifiers, Spain has won five of its last six World Cup matches.
  • My Spain vs Cape Verde prediction is the Spain Spread (-2.5, -140).

World Cup favorites Spain will begin their campaign as a heavy favorite against Cape Verde.

Spain won the 2024 Euros over England and now will try to add a World Cup crown. With a win, La Furia Roja would add its second international title since 2010.

Cape Verde enters its first World Cup in 2026. The African nation enjoyed an easy qualifying run, winning seven of 10 matches. However, a trip to Cameroon resulted in a 4-1 defeat.

Cape Verde vs Spain Prediction

Based on Cape Verde’s inexperience against quality competition and Spain’s prolific attacking record, my Spain vs Cape Verde prediction is the Spain Spread (-2.5, -140).

Spain (-2.5) @ -125 Cape Verde (2.5) @ -115

Even if Spain operates without Lamine Yamal, the attack can easily run up the score.

Cape Verde lacks experience against the world’s best teams. Even mid-range teams like Egypt and Cameroon showed that chances can be earned against this team.

Both cleared 2.5 goals against the Cape Verde defense. At the time of those matches, neither team ranked inside the top-30 of the FIFA rankings.

Even a recent friendly against Chile saw the South American outfit score four goals. It came against a 10-man Cape Verde with Chile erasing a 2-1 deficit.

But the fact remains Spain can run up the score if it so chooses. Luis de la Fuente’s side proved that at the 2022 World Cup with a 7-0 win over Costa Rica, which didn’t attempt a shot.

Cape Verde offers significantly less defensive resistance, especially given the lack of experience against European sides.

In recent friendlies, Spain covered this spread against Serbia, Georgia, Bulgaria and even Turkiye.

When Spain visited Turkiye, they won 6-0 with a +2.8 post-shot expected goal differential. At the 2024 Euros, Spain took a 3-0 halftime lead against Croatia!

Those performances leave me bullish on Spain’s ability to win going away in its opener.
