Belgium vs USA Prediction

Based on Belgium’s consistently poor defensive record and their attacking advantage over the US defense, my USA vs Belgium prediction is Total Over 2.5 Goals (-135).

Bettors should (largely) chalk off the 5-2 Belgium win over the USA in a recent friendly. Result aside, goals should flow at both ends of the pitch on Monday.

Belgium only kept a clean sheet against Iran in the group phase. Across the opening 90 minutes against Senegal, the defense allowed multiple chances along with two goals.

Senegal (#24 in the ELO ratings) was unlucky over the first 90 minutes plus injury time. The African outfit notched two goals against 2.9 expected goals, per FotMob.

The output proved more equal by post-shot xG – two goals off 1.8 psxG – but it remains a bad Belgium unit. Over all four matches, the defense surrendered four goals off 4.8 xG.

In a perfect world, the United States (#23 in the ELO ratings) would easily blow by a weak Belgian defense. Even without Folarin Balogun, I trust the creative pieces out wide against bad Belgium fullbacks.

Plus, the United States will enter Monday’s match as the fresher of the two teams. Belgium required 30 minutes of extra time after coming from 2-0 down to advance.

Tired legs and a US home-field edge should allow Mauricio Pochettino’s attack to contribute goals.

But the match also presents bettors with a potential sell-high opportunity on the USMNT defense.

Clean sheets against Australia and Bosnia mean little in terms of measuring defensive quality. By ELO ratings, Belgium offers the stiffest test for the US at the 2026 World Cup.

They go from playing Bosnia (#63 in the ELO ratings) to a more powerful UEFA side (#12). By comparison, group opponent Turkey currently ranks 20th in those standings.

Jeremy Doku presents a major challenge for the right side of the USA defense. He also featured for under an hour, leaving him open to create chances for the Belgian attack.

While it took Belgium a long time to get there, the attack still managed 0.9 xG/1.3 psxG against a superior Senegal defense.

In the lone match Belgium failed to score, they created 1.8 xG against Iran. Over four matches, they’ve created 8.5 xG (extra time vs. Senegal included).

Those factors lead me to predict a high-scoring fixture on Monday in the Pacific Northwest.
