  • Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, is the top draw between the Australian Open and Doha.
  • The total prize purse for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Open is more than $1.2 million.

The Australian Open is over, and the professional tennis tours are leaving Melbourne for new destinations.

For the WTA, most of the top players in women’s tennis will head to the Middle East for the tour’s primary winter schedule.

The Middle East swing kicks off this week in Abu Dhabi, where many of the top WTA players are playing for a total prize purse of $1,206,446.

That’s a solid midrange tour purse. But Abu Dhabi is also an important ramp-up tournament ahead of next week’s Qatar Open – the first of nine WTA 1000 events this year. Any player who’s healthy and currently on the main tour will likely be there.

That makes Abu Dhabi the place to be this week just by sheer proximity.
