Although they didn’t move to Atlanta until 1966, the Braves are considered the oldest franchise in Major League Baseball. They were established in 1871.
The Braves’ franchise history began as the Boston Red Stockings, which became one of the nine charter members of the National Association of Professional Baseball. They remained in Boston through 1952, changing their names to the Braves in 1912.
In 1953, the Braves moved to Milwaukee, where they’d stay for a dozen years. In total, the Braves have won 18 pennants and four World Series titles in franchise history.
