On April 20, 2023, the Oakland Athletics announced they had agreed to buy a 49-acre site in Paradise, Nevada, for a new ballpark. This finalized the team’s plans to leave Oakland for Las Vegas, ending rumors and negotiations that had surrounded the Athletics since May 2021 when MLB permitted them to explore relocation possibilities.
The new ballpark is set to be a $1.5 billion 30,000-seat retractable stadium at the site of the Wild Wild West casino across Interstate 15 from T-Mobile Arena, the home arena of the Vegas Golden Knights (NHL).
The Athletics are expected to begin playing at their new Las Vegas stadium in 2027.
