New FBS Coaches In College Football For the 2025 Season

In this Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, file photo, Central Florida head coach Scott Frost signals to his team during the third quarter of an NCAA college football game against Temple in Philadelphia. Frost and nine of his assistants will be full-time Nebraska employees immediately after the Peach Bowl game against Auburn on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Until then, theyโ€™ve worked almost nonstop to make sure the Central Florida players feel no disruption in their normal practice-day schedules.

Every year, college football is marked by constant turnover and movement. The era of big money (for coaches) and NIL (for players) has only exacerbated that.

As of 2025, there are 136 FBS college football programs, and nearly one-quarter of them have a new head coach leading the team into this season.

Seven guys on the list below are moving into head coaching roles from a coordinator role in their previous job. Nearly as many are coming from the NFL (4) as they are from the FCS (5).

Some are second marriages, like Rich Rodriguez in Morgantown or Scott Frost in Orlando.ย

Two guys are technically new FBS coaches, even though neither has changed jobs in a few years.ย

Hereโ€™s the full list of new FBS head coaches in 2025.ย
