Padres vs. Brewers Prediction: Game 1 NLDS Preview

Postseason Betting Promos

The San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers will face off in Game 1 of the NLDS at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at American Family Field on FS1.

Check out my Padres vs. Brewers prediction based on the latest MLB odds:

Padres vs. Brewers Prediction for Game 1 NLDS

  • Jacob Misiorowski over 17.5 outs (-113)

I like the over on Jacob Misiorowski’s outs props for my favorite Padres vs. Brewers prediction in Game 1 of the NLDS.

The Milwaukee right-hander closed as a heavy favorite in the NL Cy Young odds following a sensational second MLB season. Misiorowski led the majors with a 1.80 ERA in 30 starts, recording 252 strikeouts over 174 2/3 innings.

Milwaukee was careful with Misiorowski as it closed out the regular season. He pitched only six full innings in one of his final five starts after a streak of five straight outings with 18-plus outs.

But I think the Brewers were just saving his bullets for the postseason. They won’t hesitate to lean on him if needed.

Typically, starters have quicker hooks in the postseason. Managers are more aggressive with their bullpen, as every run and matchup matters so much. However, aces tend to be trusted more than anyone else.

In the Wild Card round, Cam Schlittler (the AL Cy Young favorite) pitched 6 1/3 innings for the New York Yankees in Game 1. The Atlanta Braves got the same number of outs from Chris Sale in his start. Sale, an NL Cy Young challenger this season, also recorded the final four outs in Game 3.

With that in mind, I believe the Brewers will give Misiorowski a longer leash to help set the tone against the Padres. He faced San Diego once in the regular season, tossing seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts on May 13.

Prediction: Jacob Misiorowski over 17.5 outs (-113)
